The Shattered Sanctum: nine bosses, four worlds, one party

From level 220, nine Creeper bosses wait at the end of their own rift. Cross three floating islands with up to four friends, take the boss down together and open the Rift Chest.

Find the Sanctum

  1. Go to the Tunnel Warden at the entrance of the Long Tunnel.
  2. Step through the gate beside him. You arrive in The Shattered Sanctum, a peaceful hall of floating islands where nobody fights.
  3. Touch the waystone on the middle island once. From then on, any waystone takes you back here.
  4. Step on the blue square on the middle island. If you fall in a rift, you wake up right there.
  5. Gather your party and step through the gate of your boss together.

Inside a rift

Every gate leads to a rift of its own: a path of floating islands above an endless void.

  • Three islands, then the boss. A group of creepers holds each island. Clear it and the rune gate on the next bridge opens.
  • You set the pace. An island only wakes when you walk out over its bridge, and it matches the size of your party. Between islands you rest back to full.
  • The boss waits on a wide platform. Its stone pillars are your shelter: the boss's most dangerous attacks only hit those who can see it.
  • Don't take too long. Six minutes after the first blow, the boss becomes furious and hits harder every minute.

Read the world, know the fight

The look of a rift tells you what kind of boss waits at the end, and what your party needs to bring.

  • Ice: a fast boss. Ice Creepers freeze you on the way. When the boss crouches low, it is about to tear into your whole group: a strong freeze stops it in mid-leap.
  • Storm: a screaming boss. Storm Creepers throw lightning and strike everyone close to them, so spread out. When the boss draws a deep breath, a strong warcry silences it. Or step behind a pillar.
  • Stone: a shield wall. Stone and Huge Creepers in heavy armour. Strong spells are your best weapon.
  • Fire: a swarm. Fire Creepers throw fireballs while the Creeper Shaman heals them. Take the Shaman down first.

The highest bosses mix two or three worlds, and their tricks too. Look at the islands before you cross the bridge, and agree who brings the freeze, the warcry and the healing.

Open the Rift Chest

When the boss falls, a Rift Chest appears on its platform. Everyone in your party opens it for their own share, and nothing is ever lost: whatever you leave in it comes with you when the rift closes.

  • Your first win against a boss gives half a level of experience on the spot, and a special item of the finest kind waits in the chest.
  • The boss of your own level rewards you once every Astonia day, which is every two real hours: experience, military points and a special item. The higher the boss, the better the item.
  • Rift Shards for everyone. Every island you take gives you one, and the boss gives more: the higher the boss, the more shards. You earn them on every run, also after your daily reward, up to 30 every Astonia day.
  • Bring someone new. When someone in your party beats a boss for the first time, everyone else gets 3 extra Rift Shards.
  • Tokens from the bosses. Your first victory over a boss always leaves you Tokens, and your daily win has a chance too. Spend them with Aldric in the Hall of Wonders.

Meet the Rift Keeper

The Rift Keeper waits next to the boss board in the Sanctum. Say "list" near him to see what he trades for your Rift Shards:

  • A special item from every boss tier you have beaten. The higher the tier, the better the item, and the more shards it costs.
  • Big healing and mana potions for your next run.

Leave your mark

  • Flawless. Win a rift without anyone in your party falling, and that boss carries your Flawless mark.
  • All nine. Defeat every Creeper boss and the whole server hears about it.
  • First on the server. The first party to defeat a boss is announced to everyone.

Good to know

  • Falling is part of it. You wake up in the Sanctum with all your experience and items. Its portal takes you back to your party.
  • Come prepared. Your potions work in a rift, one every 30 seconds, and so do your magic shield and warcry. You can heal each other on every island.
  • Rift bosses are tough. Their blows go half through any shield, and after a freeze they shake off the next one for a few seconds. Never while they crouch for their leap, though.
  • One party per rift. If the rift of your boss is in use, try again soon: a run takes about ten minutes.
